Our History
From a garage toolmaking shop to a full aerospace manufacturing operation, Toolmax has always been built on practical skills, problem-solving, and doing the job right. Our growth reflects two generations of family commitment to quality, reliability, and U.S. manufacturing.
Expanding to Tolland in 2009 and incorporating as Toolmax Designing & Tooling, we expanded our capabilities with modern equipment and a growing focus on tooling and sheet metal production components. During this period, we achieved AS9100 and ISO9001 certifications, became ITAR registered, and eventually moved into our current facility in Ashford, CT.
2009: Toolmax Designing & Tooling
The foundation of Toolmax began in the Tyler family garage, where Mike applied his toolmaking expertise on a single Bridgeport while Sally handled the administrative and bookkeeping side of the operation. Together, they built aerospace tools, fixtures, and gauges after hours, laying the groundwork for a precision-driven manufacturing culture. That hands-on craftsmanship set the standard for what Toolmax would become.
2001: Garage Beginnings
In 2025, we evolved our brand to Toolmax Aerospace, aligning our identity with the customers and programs we now serve. This strategic shift reflects our role as a full-lifecycle manufacturing partner supporting critical aerospace, defense, and space components.

OUR SITE
Ashford Modern Facility
Since 2020, Toolmax has operated from a modern 10-acre campus in Ashford, CT, located directly off I-84 at the center of Aerospace Alley. The site includes two buildings with 10,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space and a dedicated inspection lab, housing 14 presses and nine CNC mills, including two 5-axis machines. Surrounded by quiet state forests yet minutes from major aerospace hubs, the facility is purpose-built to support high-precision machining, sheet-metal forming, and tooling work.
